Weekly Happenings Around Houston – September 19th – 26th

It has been a rough week- so much going on with myself and those I am closest to. I am definitely in need of some distractions and am hoping to make it to some of these great events this coming week. Rain is in the forecast again for the weekend, but I’m not going to let that stand in my way! Here is our weekly list of fun, mostly free, family-friendly activities happening in the Houston area this weekend.

Train Rides at the Galveston Railroad Museum| 11AM-1:45PM
Galveston Railroad Museum | 2602 Santa Fe Pl, Galveston, Texas 77550
“The “Harborside Express” is an open air caboose that travels 1 mile up Harborside Dr., then returns to the Galveston Railroad Museum. The train rides are approximately 15 minutes long. Boarding for the Harborside Express begins at 11:00 am, with the last train ride departing the depot at 1:45 pm. The train is a standing ride without seats. Due to the caboose being open air, the rides will sometimes be closed during inclement weather.
Tickets are $5 in addition to admission to the Galveston Railroad Museum, and must be purchased at the museum.”

Open House | Daily from dawn until dusk through February 2019
Sam Houston Park| 1000 Bagby Street, Houston
Open House is an interactive temporary public sculpture created by local artists, Dan Havel and Dean Ruck. Sourced from Cherry House Moving Company, the 1940s-era house has circular holes into the walls creating a “Swiss cheese” appearance, and collaged interior walls with vintage images sourced from family, friends and local resale shops that represent the city’s people, places and past. Visitors can walk through Open House, soaking in some of Houston’s history while viewing both the modern skyscrapers of Downtown Houston and the landscape of Sam Houston Park through the holes that have been carved out of the house.
