Happy Halloween! It’s too bad it’s a rainy, dreary day- I hope the rain lets up enough for the kiddos to go trick-or-treating tonight. There are lots of places with Halloween activities throughout the day and evening. If Halloween is rained out, no worries! It looks like it’s going to be a fun weekend starting off with our Sugar Skulls Acrylic Painting Workshop, a fishing event at Bass Pro Shops, the Menil Drawing Institute Community Celebration, and several Art Markets.

Wednesday, October 31st

“Calling all ghosts and goblins! Join us at the 16th Annual Trick or Treat Trail! Trick-or-Treaters of all ages are invited out to this FREE community-wide event. The first 500 participants get a free Trick or Treat Bag for their treats. Local businesses and organizations will line the “trail” to pass out candy and other goodies.

“Trick-or-Treating around Pearland Town Center, please look the bright orange sign for participating stores.
Hauntcert performed by the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra at the Pearland Town Center Pavilion, a Halloween themed family friendly outdoor concert. The orchestra plays in costume and encourages the audience to attend in costume. The concert is interactive, encouraging dancing and singing by leading audience participation. The program is a mix of Halloween-themed standard classical repertoire, movie and video game scores, pop songs, and more.”

Take a break and come to explore your creative side at our acrylic painting workshop for all levels. Over the course of 2 hours, you’ll play with color, composition, light, and texture to create your own, one-of-a-kind piece of art. This workshop is designed to support creative growth for artists of all levels (really – no experience necessary!) Whether you have painted for years, or if this your first time picking up a paintbrush, you’ll receive personalized guidance to help you through the artistic process.
All materials for painting are provided. Just bring yourself and any snacks or drinks (and yes, that includes alcohol for those 21+) to enjoy (we’ll supply the utensils!)

Train Rides at the Galveston Railroad Museum| 11AM-1:45PM

“The “Harborside Express” is an open air caboose that travels 1 mile up Harborside Dr., then returns to the Galveston Railroad Museum. The train rides are approximately 15 minutes long. Boarding for the Harborside Express begins at 11:00 am, with the last train ride departing the depot at 1:45 pm. The train is a standing ride without seats. Due to the caboose being open air, the rides will sometimes be closed during inclement weather.
Tickets are $5 in addition to admission to the Galveston Railroad Museum, and must be purchased at the museum.”

Open House is an interactive temporary public sculpture created by local artists, Dan Havel and Dean Ruck. Sourced from Cherry House Moving Company, the 1940s-era house has circular holes into the walls creating a “Swiss cheese” appearance, and collaged interior walls with vintage images sourced from family, friends and local resale shops that represent the city’s people, places and past. Visitors can walk through Open House, soaking in some of Houston’s history while viewing both the modern skyscrapers of Downtown Houston and the landscape of Sam Houston Park through the holes that have been carved out of the house.
