Weekly Happenings Around Houston – Nov 14th – 20th

I can’t believe next week is already Thanksgiving! I don’t know where the year has gone. This time of year always seems to go by with the blink of an eye. Be sure to take a break from all of the rushing around, and take time to enjoy the season. To help with that, I’ve added a section to this weekly blog with a list of ongoing holiday events. My family always loves looking at Christmas lights- whether we’re going to the Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens, or just driving around the neighborhood with popcorn and hot chocolate. This weekend is the opening weekend of the Ice Skating Rink at Discovery Green, and the lighting of the lights at City Centre. Also this weekend is the Via Colori street painting festival which is a giant outdoor art gallery. If you want to take a break for yourself, We have our colorful pumpkins acrylic painting workshops on Friday and Saturday evenings this weekend.

If you’re needing something for the kids to do next week when they are off of school, we have our school’s out art workshops in the mornings from 9-12 and Bricks 4 Kidz is having workshops at the studio in the afternoons from 1-4. This gives you the option to build your child’s workshops around your schedule.

Open House | Daily from dawn until dusk through February 2019
Sam Houston Park| 1000 Bagby Street, Houston
Open House is an interactive temporary public sculpture created by local artists, Dan Havel and Dean Ruck. Sourced from Cherry House Moving Company, the 1940s-era house has circular holes into the walls creating a “Swiss cheese” appearance, and collaged interior walls with vintage images sourced from family, friends and local resale shops that represent the city’s people, places and past. Visitors can walk through Open House, soaking in some of Houston’s history while viewing both the modern skyscrapers of Downtown Houston and the landscape of Sam Houston Park through the holes that have been carved out of the house.
