Weekly Happenings Around Houston – Dec 5th – 11th

It’s another jam-packed weekend with so much going on- from Santa visits and holiday markets to bike rides, performances and Bollywood dancing. This time of year can get a bit overwhelming! I think of all the things I need to do before the year end, everything I need to do to get ready for the holidays, and then just all that needs to be done in my day to day life with running a business, being a wife and mother, and the PTO secretary and I wonder how it’s all going to happen while enjoying the holiday season and attending all these fun events. I constantly have to remind myself that this time of year is about family, friends, and being with those you love, not about attending every holiday event possible. So, if we decide to stay home for the weekend to watch holiday movies and bake cookies, it’s ok because we’re spending time together and that’s what counts. However, if you are looking to get out and do something fun this weekend, here’s a list of some of the things going on around Houston.

Elf the Musical | 8PM (Multiple Dates and Times available- visit link below for more info.)
Queensbury Theatre | 12777 Queensbury Ln, Houston, Texas 77024
“A title known the world over, Elf The Musical is a must-produce holiday musical that can easily become an annual tradition for any theatre. Based on the cherished 2003 New Line Cinema hit, Elf features songs by Tony Award nominees, Matthew Skylar and Chad Beguelin (Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway, The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).
Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toymaking abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to
New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
This modern day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf. After all, the best way
to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear.
Book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin
Music by Matthew Skylar
Lyrics by Chad Beguelin”

LOOP Houston | 8AM-11PM Nov. 30th through Jan. 6th

“Bring the family down to Avenida Houston, Downtown’s center for entertainment and enjoy our new, interactive art installation!
As always, this event is FREE and open to the public so don’t worry about tickets.
LOOP
The work is inspired by the zoetrope, an optical toy invented in the 19th century. Loop is a cross between a music box, a zoetrope and a railway handcar. The retro-futuristic machine, more than two meters in diameter, creates animated fairy-tale Loops. Through the combined efforts of members of the public working the hand lever, the image cylinder lights up and creates the illusion of motion in the drawings. The black and white images, tinted through a strobe effect, recall the earliest movies and are visible inside the cylinder as well as outside it, so that they can be watched from close up or far away. The speed at which the images fly by, the frequency at which the light flickers and the rhythm of the audio composition are all directly related to the pace set by the participants, who can be of any age. Loop was first presented as part of the 7th edition of Luminothérapie, in 2016-2017, at the Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles in Montreal.”
